2024 Host Organizations

German Research Foundation DFG

The German Research Foundation, Germany’s principal funder of research, is an independent organization that receives funding from the German federal government and Germany’s 16 states to support high-caliber research in all academic disciplines. The DFG maintains a North American office in three locations: Washington DC, San Francisco, and New York City. In New York, the focus is on the marketing and promotion of research funding, in cooperation with German partner organizations such as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH), and in collaboration with German universities in North America. Together, our three offices facilitate contact between scientists and researchers in Germany and North America, support early-career researchers here on a DFG fellowship and organize outreach activities to showcase German research.

NYC Civic Engagement Commission

The NYC Civic Engagement Commission (CEC) was established by the voters of New York City as part of an amendment to the City Charter in 2018. The CEC’s mission is to enhance civic participation, promote civic trust, and strengthen democracy in NYC. The CEC works to accomplish this mission through its programming, including: “The People’s Money” – NYC’s first-ever citywide participatory budgeting process; “DemocracyNYC” – a voter engagement initiative that provides interpreters at election poll sites; supporting Community Boards by providing trainings and resources to board members; programming and partnerships with other City agencies to increase awareness and access to city services; “The People’s Bus” – a retired Corrections vehicle transformed into mobile community center.
